Our Constitutional Republic cannot survive without an honest, impartial media. Over the years, it’s been common knowledge that the mainstream media always tilted to the left. But in the age of Trump, the once-respected Fourth Estate has become a propaganda arm of the left. This dramatic change in mission – the decision to act as a “check” on only conservatives and Republicans, while giving liberals and Democrats a free pass, couldn’t be more alarming for the future of America.
Look no further than CNN’s coverage of President Trump’s speech at CPAC on Sunday. CNN’s big headline, “Trump unleashes new threat to American democracy,” was not based in reality. The sad truth is that this headline was going to be the liberal media’s narrative, regardless of what Trump said in Orlando. I submit that the mainstream media’s overt political agenda is the true threat to democracy. Look no further than the liberal media’s unserious coverage of President Joe Biden and congressional Democrats.
Biden and the Democrats are in the process of ramming through a $1.9 trillion dollar COVID relief bill that is filled with hundreds of billions of dollars in non-COVID spending. If a Republican president were asking the American taxpayer for $1.9 trillion dollars for anything, the media would demand a presidential press conference. But in the case of Biden, there’s no such pressure because his allies in the media know the contents of the bill are indefensible.
The kid gloves treatment of Biden is nothing new. For instance, The Washington Post recently reported that the first holding facility for unaccompanied migrant children under President Biden opened in Carrizo Springs, Texas. The piece also noted that “the most colorful trailer is at the entryway,” and that it is adorned with “flowers, butterflies and handmade posters.” But it wasn’t so long ago that the biased media’s preferred phrase for these facilities was “kids in cages” when President Trump was in charge.
As White House press secretary Jen Psaki dodged questions on the clear hypocrisy of reopening a facility then-candidate Biden called a mistake on the campaign trail, other liberal outlets flooded the Twittersphere with glowing coverage of Joe Biden. The Hill published a piece on Wednesday titled “Biden leans into empathizer-in-chief role.” Amid the growing controversy, other outlets covered a picture of Biden posing with his two dogs in the Oval Office. The mainstream media, essentially an extension of the Democrat National Committee at this point, was in full spin mode. Compared to the last four years, when outlet after outlet pushed debunked Russia-gate conspiracy theories and compared President Trump’s southern border facilities to concentration camps, the blatant partisanship in wide swaths of the media is distressing.
CNN’s infamous kick-off town hall event with Biden was a particular highlight – or lowlight – in what has been an extraordinary few weeks of vulgarly biased coverage of the new administration by its lapdogs in the fake news media. Host Anderson Cooper strategically danced around humiliating topics while lobbing Biden softball questions so embarrassingly easy that viewers took to social media in the aftermath to call out the network for its pathetic display.
While Cooper did ask Biden about what it’s like to live in the White House, he avoided addressing the scandals already plaguing the new administration. For example, there was no mention of the resignation of his deputy press secretary TJ Ducklo for harassing a female reporter. Nor was there a question on Biden’s decision to rescind the Keystone pipeline permit, which killed tens of thousands of jobs with the stroke of a pen. Finally, Cooper avoided perhaps the biggest story in American politics currently – the growing outrage surrounding New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
Additional coverage lows from the self-proclaimed “firefighters” in the esteemed Fourth Estate include a cloyingly sweet write-up of how Biden likes a fire in the Oval Office and has an early bedtime. Hard-hitting coverage of Biden’s Presidents Day weekend at Camp David finally broke the story of which character he plays as in Mario Kart (it’s Luigi).
Biased outlets continue to publish this brand of “journalism” while simultaneously asking each other – either on Twitter or at Beltway cocktail parties – “why does the American public not trust us?” President Trump is often their answer, revealing a shocking lack of self-awareness and honesty from the so-called truth seekers.
The fact is that “mainstream” outlets like the Washington Post, CNN, MSNBC, et al have been functioning as political action committees for a while now, with coverage increasingly mirroring the messaging seen coming straight from the left. Their hatred for Donald Trump stems from the simple fact that he revealed to the nation the mainstream’s media’s obvious political agenda as they falsely insist to be independent and honest.
If reporters continue to bemoan the state of their industry and look for answers to the question of how we got here, they need only look in a mirror.
